It's Fall Y'all!

To say I've neglected this blog is an understatement. I really really miss writing on here, but life is just packed out. I have so many things that I think.. "Man, I really want to write about that" but then I don't. Bad, Kailey!

*** I will tell you that an update about how we are growing our family will come soon, I promise.

*** School is still going fabulous. We are settling into a schedule, which is so nice.

*** Dru and I are leading a marriage small group this semester, which is too fun. We are doing a curriculum called, Love & Respect. HIGHLY recommend it!

*** My sister, bro-in-law, and sweet baby niece are doing fabulous. Their church launched last month. It is growing and doing great.

*** Pumpkin spice lattes have made their appearance at Starbucks. I basically can't contain my excitement.

*** I am reading a new book, You Are Not What You Weigh, pretty sure it's legit, but will definitely write when I finish it.

*** Dru and I are still moving in the direction of organic, non processed eating. Proving to be difficult now that school is back in, but we are definitely doing our best.

I think that it for now.... Catch you on the flip side :)

Much love!

smooooothies!!!!

{the post title is meant to be said like Cameron Diaz did in What Happens in Vegas!}

***recipe***
about a cup of coconut milk, about a tablespoon of vanilla protein powder, handful of strawberries, handful of blueberries, half of a banana, and some ice

I am obsessed with smoothies these days... I am *doing my best* to drink one before I run & one after :)

I've come up with two different recipes so far. I don't want to bombard my IG friends with pictures of food/smoothies, so I decided to post here on my sweet little web space :)

***recipe***
cup of ice, one banana, 1/3 cup of oatmeal, scoop of vanilla protein powder, about 1 cup of coconut milk, cup of ice, 1 tablespoon (many a little more) natural peanut butter
*add organic honey to taste*

workout outfit tonight :) I love me some pink!

Happy Monday night! Enjoy it!

gettin' healthy #2

Yes, here we go again! More healthy info, people... GET EXCITED!
One of my dear friends has been talking to me about sodium nitrate and the dangers of consuming food that contains it. Of course, I've been eating foods for who knows how long with sodium nitrate in them. Oh dear. Not a good plan.
Since learning about this... {Side note: I LOVE lunch meat!} I learned that there are versions of lunch meat without nitrates! Can I get a HOORAY!? I was very excited to know that I can still enjoy lunch meat without this dangerous cancer causing chemical... WHOO WHOO!

Here are some links so you can read up for yourself:

gettin' healthy #1

I posted a while ago about some changes that Dru and I are making to live longer and healthier lives, so I wanted to update you on the most recent one.... we are getting rid of BPA!

Two of my closest friends are big believers in all things organic and healthy. They have had great influence on my life over the past year and challenging me to make some healthy changes. I am very grateful, because I was very ignorant to what all of the things I was putting in my body and what they were doing to me.

So, I guess it's been about a few months, but Dru and I cleaned out our cabinets and removed all of our plastic containers. Don't worry, I didn't throw them away, I gave them to a local thrift store and to my parents :) I guess that kinda defeats the purpose, but oh well. We will slowly stop using canned goods, but I'm not throwing those away. {I have tons of canned goods.} I also will not buy any more plastic cups, we will drink out of glass.

I wanted to share some research with you that I have come across, but honestly most of what I'm learning is from my friends. A sweet blog friend of mine over at Team Harries Beats Infertility, shared a little about what they are doing to beat infertility naturally. One of those ways is by getting rid of BPA! Go check it out! Another blog I have been reading is called Naturally Knocked Up and she discusses why BPA is just no good :)

Stay tuned for more ways the Birkelands are gettin' healthy!

weight loss update

I can't believe I'm actually putting my weight in blog world for all to see, but I really wanted to share how far I've come in this journey to lose weight & feel better.

The picture on the right was taken the first week I started medi and I weighed in at 166 pounds.. Yuck! My original goal was to lose 36 pounds, which would put me at 130 pounds. That would be my dream weight, but I have decided that I would like to be in the 130s.

The picture to the right is this past weekend, but I weighed in last Thursday at 148 pounds, so technically I could weigh less now. I will continue to weigh myself at home and also continue the diet that I've been doing. Hopefully doing so, will result with me reaching my goal weight!

Thank you for the encouraging text messages and emails! I couldn't have done this without the support!

Much love!

HIS plan, not mine

Hello there!

Can I just say how excited I am that we made this decision to take a break? Literally just the past three days have made a huge difference in my heart and mind. Dru and I have decided to take May & June off of procedures and meds. I think it's honestly the really really good decision for us right now. I actually cancelled my appt set for tomorrow. I really don't even want a plan.... yes, you read that right... Kailey doesn't want a plan? Ha! I know, what is wrong with me? I'll tell you what's wrong with me....The Lord is drawing me near to Him. He is speaking more and more to me about relying on Him during this season and following His plan, not mine. I am going to be taking a hiatus from blogging amongst other social media things the month of May. Also, during the month of May I will be doing a weight loss program called, Medifast. I am so very excited to get my body back to the way it's suppose to look... BHAHAHAHA! It's been a while, my friends, it's been a while. But, it's time to get it together, especially since our fam beach trip is coming up. I also just want to feel good again.

I will leave you with ways that you can pray for Dru and me over the next month or so.
Thank you so much for hanging in there with us during the very trying and difficult season.

Please pray that I/we would:
  • Draw near to the Lord during this time and to each other.
  • Be able to hear the Lord's voice very clearly.
  • Have clear direction as to what is next in this journey.
  • Discipline ourselves to dive into His Word and trust Him.
  • Discipline myself to lose weight and feel good again.
  • Be satisfied in our love for each other and our family of 2.
  • Be REFRESHED!!
Much love to each of you! Have a fabulous Sunday! :)

water wins!

As most of you know, I have or had a bit of an obsession with diet dr. pepper. Needless to say, this stuff is not so good for me. I struggle with it literally consuming where I eat and what I eat. ('m aware that this is very sad, but you know you love me anyway!!)
I have been dealing with migraines for a very long time, but in the last 4 years, they have gotten progressively worse. I know that *aspartame* is contributing to the 4-5 migraines that I have each week. So, with the steps we are taking in an effort to get pregnant, I feel as though this is something that I can do to possibly help our chances. Even if it doesn't have anything to do with upping our chances of conceiving, it will at least I will be healthier! That's a plus in my book!
I am still drinking coffee, which means I'm still getting my caffeine. Believe me, if I was not drinking coffee, I would be in a world of pain, because I'm pretty much addicted. Maybe I can one day soon get completely off caffeine too, but let's not be too hasty.
I will be posting later on about some other changes the husb and I are taking in an effort to live longer and healthier lives. #2013 #thisisouryear

Gotta love a mason jar :)

Drink up!
